Machane Yehuda Market / Shuk
Known as the largest market in Jerusalem, or “shuk”, Machane Yehuda is an extensive marketplace and most certainly worth visiting on your own or on a tour. Here you will find fresh, local produce that is always in season. In fact, you can always tell which fruit or vegetable is in season based on the bright colors dotting the vendor’s stalls throughout the alleyways. You can also find every spice, fresh or dried, along with fresh cheese, honey, meat, halva, and baked goods. Follow your nose and eyes and be sure to sample these many delicious bites. With over 250 vendors, you will not leave hungry or empty handed!
Machane Yehuda is certainly worth visiting in the evening as well, when the shuk transforms from daytime market to nightlife hotspot with many bars and restaurants. Also check out the urban artwork initiative, which is showcased on the metal shutter doors of the market, making a stroll through the market after-hours a great activity. This was a project sponsored by the city that invited local artists to display their work for the public.

Mamilla Mall
For a very different shopping experience in Jerusalem, head to the Mamilla open-air mall, located just outside the Jaffa Gate of the Old City. This pedestrian promenade offers upscale shopping, as well as some delicious cafes and restaurants. This stunning mall combines new architecture and development while maintaining some of its ancient facades. Keep an eye out for art installations which rotate frequently and can be seen throughout the walkway. Here you will find several chain stores as well as smaller boutiques.

Old City Market
While you meander through the endless winding streets of the Old City, you will find yourself in the various quarters. Situated between the Jewish Quarter and the Muslim Quarter, you will find yourself in the Shuk (market). Vendors here are ready to bargain, so feel free to test out your negotiating skills. Here you will find religious items, jewelry, pottery, hookah, clothing and textiles, and endless souvenirs. There is certainly something for everyone in this market. Get lost in the many alleyways, and feel free to pop into the stores tucked away in the hidden corners.

The First Station
A perfect mix of shopping, recreation, art, and culture, Jerusalem’s First Station also offers fun for the whole family! This outdoor mall has daily performances, cafes, and activities. The options vary each week, so be sure to check in advance to see what is being offered. There are always shop kiosks offering family-friendly purchases.
Bezalel Arts Fair Market
Showcasing the impressive artwork of these artists, the Bezalel street fair is the perfect place to purchase a gift for others or for yourself! Vendors offer stunning handmade pieces including jewelry, pottery, soaps, and more. Similar to the Nachalat Benyamin artist market in Tel Aviv, this smaller version also offers lots of vendors. You will feel inspired when you see the amazing pieces of work sold at this special Jerusalem market.
The Bezalel Art Fair happens every Friday 9:00-15:00 (in the winter months) or 10:00-16:00 (summer months).
Emek Refaim Market Street
Situated in the hip German Colony, Emek Refaim is lined with many cafes, shops, and bars. Known for being a stylish and trendy street, you are certain to find some great fashion finds in this neighborhood. Be sure to check as there are pop up events, street markets, and art and book fairs held regularly. Whatever is going on, this is certainly worth checking out! Be sure to visit on Friday mornings for the Farmers and Craftsman market located on this street, a wonderful way to spend a morning.
