Take an Israel Wine Tour to see the land of wine and cheese up close, and visit some of the country’s most recognised and impressive wineries. In Biblical times, some 2100 years ago Israel was known as a region that made quality wine, and was in fact one of the first wine making regions in the world. As time moved on, the industry moved away, but returned in full force over the past decades, with the Israeli wine industry today thriving and returning to the forefront of the global scene, producing some 35 million bottles a year. Our Israel wine tour takes you to some of the country’s most well regarded and respected wineries, led by expert guides who are passionate about wine that Israel produces. This can either be a full day or half day tour, or a stop on another private tour itinerary where wineries can be found (which can be almost anywhere in Israel)
Wine tour in Israel – Background
From excavations, archeologists have uncovered over 20 ancient wine presses from over 2100 years ago in the Jerusalem Hills. Historians know that Israel exported millions of jugs of wine throughout the Mediterranean and Asian trading routes because archeologists have found wine jugs with the symbol of Israeli ports. Israel has gone through her ups and downs within the wine industry but today the Israeli Wine Industry is thriving and on a huge up-swing. Boutique wineries are opening on a frequent basis and Israel is producing approximately 35 million bottles annually.
Now that Israelis, tourists and wine lovers from around the world can enjoy quality wine from Israel, they want to visit these vineyards just like they do in Napa, StellenboIsch, Bordeaux or Adelaide. Israel has over 300 wineries (35 industrial and the remaining medium and boutique size). Of these 300 wineries only a small percent are known by the majority of the Israeli wine lovers.
