The Western Wall in Jerusalem’s Old City, is the holiest place on earth to Jews. Also known as the Kotel and Wailing Wall it is the last remaining wall of the Jewish Temple which was destroyed in the year 70 CE, almost 2,000 years ago. Jews have continually seen this wall as holy and have continued to pray there ever-since. Since the re-unification of Jerusalem by Israel in 1967, the Western Wall has become a major attraction for visitors to Israel, Jewish and non-Jewish who walk up to the wall to pray or undertake the custom of placing a prayer within a crack in the wall.
