ROGAINE Cross Country Orienteering Event, Galilee. March 29, 2014

The annual Israel Sport Orienteering Association, ROGAINE, is a great opportunity to explore the Galilee, with 5-hour and 8-hour orienteering events for hikers and runners, and a 6-hour event for bike riders in the Menashe Plateau between Yokneam and Megiddo in the Lower Galilee. The 2014 ROGAINE takes place on March 29, 2014.

Rogaining is a sport of cross-country navigation without GPS. Teams of two to five members use map and compass to traverse terrain that varies from open countryside to hilly forest. Teams move along trails at their own pace, and participants of all ages can experience the challenge and fun of rogaining. The competitive objective is to achieve the highest score by reaching checkpoints within the set time limit. Checkpoints have different point values, and can be visited in any order, so strategy and route choice are the keys to success.

The beautiful Menashe Plateau landscape combines natural woodlands and planted forests, orchards, open fields and streams. ROGAINE participants will encounter historic and archaeological remains from prehistoric times through the Ottoman period, as well as sites related to the heritage of modern Israel.

Registration costs 100 NIS per person and is open until March 25. Details and registration info at  www.israelorienteering.org/rogaine
