Rail travel in Israel has been modernized and developed extensively over the past ten years or so, meaning that Israel Railways, the national train operator, offers a great option for getting around, particularly within the Coastal Plain. Trains in Israel are clean, generally modern, and air-conditioned, and are reliable and relatively frequent. American jazz pianist, Brad Mehdau will be in Israel, July 18, 2011 for a one-off concert at the Shuni Amphitheater in Park Jabotinsky near the Israeli town of Binyamina, about 45 minutes north of Tel Aviv. In the relatively remote hills of the Western Galilee lies the Tefen Open Museum which is a unique collection of exhibitions in a unique setting, an industrial park. The International Puppet Theater & Film Festival in Holon, Israel
The International Puppet Theater and Film Festival takes place every July in the Israeli city of Holon, just south of Tel Aviv. Started in 1995, the festival which is organized by the Israel Puppet Center, hosts around 30 performances by resident and international artists, conferences, exhibitions, and an opening street procession. The annual Jerusalem Film Festival is held in July and screens 150 to 200 films yearly over the course of a week. The festival takes place at the Jerusalem Cinemateque and Sultan's Pool amphitheater, and showcases the best of international feature films, documentary films, and movies and shorts dealing with issues of Jewish identity and history, freedom and human rights. In 2011, the Jerusalem Film Festival takes place between July 7 and 16, and will feature, in addition to existing cinematic competitions, an international competition for short animation and sci-fi films and other artworks depicting Jerusalem in 2111. Tel Aviv has joined the revolution sweeping all the world's greatest cities - bike rentals in Tel Aviv have landed. The Tel Aviv bicycle rental scheme is called Tel-O-Fun which is run by the city's municipality. Designed for residents, the bike scheme is great for tourists alike who can collect a bike from a point in one part of the city, and drop it off on the other side of town. The 30-acre oasis that is the Jerusalem Botanical Gardens on the southeast corner of the Hebrew University's Givat Ram campus houses about 10,000 species arranged according to geography, with sections for plants native to the Mediterranean region, Central and Southwest Asia, Australia, North America, Europe and Southern Africa. Tonight, rock legend Bob Dylan is giving his concert at the Ramat Gan Stadium, near to Tel Aviv. There are 5,000 tickets left to be sold and prices are between 350 NIS and 1000 NIS and can be purchased from the Le'an ticket agency. He is being accompanied by Israeli band Asaf Avidan and the Mojos cellist Hadas Kleinman and Ricky Lee Jones. The Hiriya is a 60 meter high mound of waste. It is the first sight, and smell, many tourists have upon entering Israel, being next to Ben Gurion Airport. Thankfully, the landfill is now closed, and the mound is being converted into the centerpiece of the new Ariel Sharon Park, set to be the largest new urban park built in the last century in the world. Bigger than Central Park in New York, the Ariel Sharon Park is currently open in a limited format, and will be opened in stages until its completion in 2020. Read More
