Ezuz in the Negev Desert is a unique community of artists and creatives. Located on a beautiful hilltop overlooking some breathtaking desert scenery, the village is home to less than 15 families, each of whom runs some kind of tourism or culture related business. The village is a haven for eco-tourism with many unique and inspirational creations constructed out of the remains of buses, train carriages, and other unusual materials.

Ezuz is located very close to Israel’s border with Egypt, in the eastern part of the Ramat Negev region. The village is home to a diverse community of artistic people, pretty well all of whom are offering some kind of service to visitors. There are galleries showcasing forged metalwork and sculptures, homes which also host cultural events and parties, as well as a goats cheese maker, and honey farm. The village has two cafes and many of the residents operate zimmers, bed and breakfast style accommodations such as Tobiana, where the owners, professional mask makers trained in France have created a cultural venue and have created a series of guest rooms.

The region around Ezuz features some of Israel’s most beautiful desert landscapes meaning that there are countless opportunities for Negev jeep safaris, hiking and biking (the Negev has over 200km of marked bike trails), and even sand surfing. Near to Ezus are ancient Nabatean cities such as Shivta and Nizzane.
Shivta is an interesting place to stop for a few hours, or to base yourself for a few days if exploring the region.
