New York has come to Tel Aviv Port with a live video link up with Times Square in the Big Apple.

One of the most prominent and bustling symbols of New York made aliyah three days ago and landed in Tel Aviv. The Tel Aviv Port was designed to look like New York’s Times Square and hosted events and activities, including a large screen through which the public could see what is going on in real time in the authentic square in the Big Apple.

Using Bezeq’s new NGN technology, port visitors can view all the goings on in the New York street and vice versa in a life-size live broadcast. Friends and family can meet up via this transatlantic telecast between Tel Aviv and New York.

Among the people we met at the events were a New York resident who came to talk with his friends back home and an Israeli who was pumped up to see the passersby in New York carrying lulavs and etrogs.

The event kicked off on Tuesday and will continue until Thursday. The events scheduled include yoga classes taught by teachers hailing from New York, cooking classes, salsa, creative activities, and game corners for children. The celebrations will conclude with a concert given by Tararam. Various street performers, including acrobats, musicians, rappers, break dancers, tap dancers, and human statues, will also contribute to the merriment.

In Tel Aviv, clubs tend not to get busy until midnight, going on until dawn. Make sure you dont arrive too late, though, as it might take a long time to get in!

Tel Aviv has a vibrant nightlife which is gaining international recognitian.

In Tel Aviv, clubs tend not to get busy until midnight, going on until dawn. Make sure you dont arrive too late, though, as it might take a long time to get in!

Tel Aviv Port

Fast becoming one of Tel Aviv’s trendiest nightlife spots, the Tel Aviv Port offers a variety of tastes. Many clubs here have a minimum age of 25 and a long queue. So, if you’re prepared to wait, you can experience something really cool. Options here include:

Erlich – Always full, its a casual but fun and friendly bar.

Shablul Jazz Club – Tel Aviv’s top jazz spot is open all week long attracting a ‘more mature’ customer.

Old School – A new dance club and bar (open Wednesday to Saturday)

TLV – once considered Tel Aviv’s hottest venue is still a great place to go, and it attracts international dj’s

Shalvata – a kind of restaurant come bar, Shalvata has lots of outdoor seating and serves full meals until late

Neve Tzedek

The South Tel Aviv neighborhood of Neve Tzedek has loads of small bars and clubs which are laid back and stylish!

Yad Haruzim

Yad Haruzim is where you will find many of Tel Aviv’s mega-bars and clubs which only get going at 12AM!

Lilinblum & Nachlat Binyamin (Rothschild area)

The original Tel Aviv nightlife began here, and today it has some of the most successful clubs and bars in the city. Saturated with clubs and bars this is a great place for bar hopping.

And…the beach

In the summer, the beach bars take on a new definition at night with all of Tel Aviv’s beach crowded at night from the Port in the north through to Yafo in the south!

During the day, the cafes and stores here host some of the city’s richest and trendiest, whilst at night, the area transforms into one of Tel Aviv‘s most popular nightlife venues.

History

The Tel Aviv Port was founded in 1936 by Otzar Mif’alei Yam, literally, Treasure of Sea Works, as the first new port in Israel. The port was constructed against the background of tense relations which Jaffa, then the main port in the land, had established a reputation for. The port grew into the biggest in the land and was very

important in the establishment of the State of Israel and subsequent mass-migrations from around the world. This flourishing situation didn’t continue, however, and as containerized shipping became the standard way of transporting goods, bigger ports were built elsewhere, and the Port became derelict.

In the 1990′s and 2000′s, the original developers Otzar Mifalei Yam set about regenerating the area into one of leisure, with the big old hangers converted into restaurants, shops, and nightclubs.

The Port Today

Today, the Tel Aviv Port is an area of culture, entertainment and leisure activities. A huge wooden deck covers 14,000 sq.m. and acts as a huge promenade running along the seafront. Shaped like waves in the sea, this unique promenade becomes crowded, along with the rest of the port on weekends with families venturing out for great food, and in the evenings, with the numerous bars and clubs which have sprung up bringing in people.
