There are some great sites in the Negev and a jeep tour will let you see a lot. Most of the places mentioned in the article don't require a jeep, a regular car will do. There are short hikes that are appropriate for the whole family, for example, the Red Canyon near Eilat or Nahal Og, just a 1/2 hour from Jerusalem near the Dead Sea. I just did a hike in the Makhtesh HaKatan last week, the weather was great. Most of the hikes can be done year round, of course it is a lot hotter in the summer. It's probably worth hiring a guide who know the trails until you have some experience.

I fully agree. The best way to see the Negev is to take a tour. Done this twice and it is quite unbelievable.
Your driving along a narrow winding tarmac road in the middle of desert rocks and mountains when you turn off onto a dirt track and really start to explore. There is just no way you can do this by yourself. What seems a lifeless sterile place is full of life and history. Ancient Nabotean settlements, dry river beds, oasis ,
The silence is intense and just the sound of the warm winds blowing through.
It's like no other place on earth.

To see the most of the Negev take a jeep tour. You get to go off road and into a wilderness that is quite
beautiful. It is very exciting as you step into a timeless world that is so far away from our modern world.
From out of this mystical place came Moses and the children of Israel. You feel as if maybe around the next corner maybe you'll see them . Enjoy.

I slept under the stars out in the middle of the Negev Desert during my trip to Israel. Our tour group was hosted by a group of Bedouin and we had the choice of sleeping in a big tent or dragging a mattress out under the stars. I chose the latter, of course. It was so beautiful, with no lights for miles and miles around you could see so many stars!

What gorgeous photos you have added here. Truly stunning. I have never really considered Israel before, more through lack of knowledge of what there is to see and do. The scenery looks breathtaking. Looks extremely hot though, when would be a good time of the year to visit? Sleeping under a bedouin tent sounds fun, I love to lie and watch the stars at night. I can imagine the air there is so clear you would be lucky to see many shooting stars.
