Jerusalem Woodstock Revival

The original Woodstock festival happened a long time ago, and whilst the festival no longer lives on, the music does. In Israel the mix of music from the summer of ’69 remains ever-popular, combined with modern-day hits. And its for that reason that ever year Jerusalem hosts a 5-hour music marathon. The Jerusalem Woodstock Revival 2011 will take place on July 14 at the Kraft Stadium.

Taking place at the Kraft Family Stadium in Jerusalem, the concert is going to benefit the non-profit American Football in Israel (AFI) organization. Israeli home-grown bands will perform their own covers of the legendary songs including a line-up of:

Yael Deckelbaum (from Habanot Nechama) plays Janis Joplin and Joni Mitchell

Tree plays The Grateful Dead’s “On It”

Long Time Gone plays tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival

Pritzat Disc plays covers of Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix

Libi and the Flash play Joe Cocker and Cream

Clare Diane and Graffiti play selected songs from the original Woodstock concert

Nathan Galili plays songs from Bob Dylan

“I missed the original Woodstock Festival, and have regretted it ever since,” says stadium director Steve Leibowitz ahead of the original revival in 2009. “I believe that the music of Woodstock impacted Western culture in a way that no music festival or performer ever has since”.  Danny Gewirtz, the concert organizer, added, “we hope that the stadium will be full of Peace, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll. In any case, we promise to provide the Rock ‘n’ Roll!”
