Accomodation in Israel
Israel has a big selection of places to stay…from international resort-style hotels by the likes of Sheraton and Hilton, to local run chains, bed and breakfasts, and traditional-style inns.
Boutique hotels have sprung up around the country, especially in Tel Aviv over the past years, indeed, one was included in this year’s best hotel list by Conde Nast, whilst self catering accommodation is available around Israel. Kibbutzim and moshavim have, in many cases, established their own accommodations, ranging from luxury hotels and guesthouses to cottages and zimmers.
Hotel Ratings in Israel
Israel doesn’t at present rate hotels, so the star rating on their website is self-assigned. This does make them less reliable, although the hotel owners know that they wont have any satisfied customers by calling themselves five star and charging appropriately, if they are of a one-star standard!
What’s a Zimmer?
In the rural areas, one of the most popular types of accommodation are zimmers. These are part bed and breakfast, part home stay accommodations, usually run by everyday Israelis. Whilst some zimmers are simple rooms in someone’s house, most of the 8,000 zimmers are rural cabins built alongside the owner’s main home, with guests offered perks such as shiatsu massage, homemade bread and jam, and Jacuzzis. We think that the idea of a private cabin is a really cool way to stay when trying to relax.

After a decade it appears that the Israeli tourism ministry is attempting to reinstate a reliable ratings system for Israel's hotels as consumers have a right to know what to expect when booking a hotel. However in the technological age we live in it goes without saying that most people will be able to ascertain the quality of the hotel they intend to stay in by conducting research on the internet,.
Some great ideas here for travelers looking to stay in Israel. I would never have known what a Zimmer was before so thanks for the explanation.
I would much prefer to stay in one of these rural cabins as opposed to a brand name hotel as you would get much more of a feel for the place and its locals.
