Hamshushalayim, Jerusalem. December, 2011.

Hamshushalayim is an event series that takes place in Jerusalem during the first four weekends in December. Returning to the city for its seventh year, the series offers the public an amazing array of events at cultural institutions in the city with museums and tourist sites opening free of charge to the public and tens of free or very affordable music performances, street theater, musical. exciting night tours, and concerts across Jerusalem. The Hamshushalayim series will take place in 2011 on the weekends of December 1-3, December 8-10, December 15-17, and December 22-24.

Museums and galleries in Jerusalem participating in the Hamshushalayim series with free entry (from 21:00 until early hours), including:

  • The Israel Museum, Jerusalem
  • The Bible Lands Museum – nocturnal tours to the light of oil lamps
  • The Museum of Underground Prisoners
  • The Davidson Center
  • The Science Museum
  • Jerusalem Design Week falls in part during Hamshushalayim and its exhibitions fall under the event
  • The national Biennale for Drawng at the Jerusalem Artists House
  • Agrippas 12 Gallery
  • Barbur Gallery

Dozens of music performances, free of charge or for a minimum fee, including:

  • Opera performances and San Remo songs at the Museum of Italian Judaism
  • Jewish soul music at the Hechal Shlomo Jewish Heritage Center
  • Acappella singers at the Scottish Church
  • A performance by Shlomo Gronich and the Shva choir at the Conferedation House
  • The “Shahariar” band and Turkish jazz music with Yair Dalal at the Museum of Islam,
  • Rock concerts and Greek music at the Maabada
  • Chamber music at the Eden Tamir Music Center
  • Russian folk songs at the Tower of David
  • Concerts at the Sisters of Zion Monastery

Theater and dance performances in Jerusalem, free of charge or for a minimum fee, including:

  • Late night stories – an exclusive evening that combines theater, cinema and a theater of inanimate objects
  • “Fania Flamenco” – flamenco dancing with Jewish-Sephardic music at Gerard Bechar
  • Kolban Dance troupe at the Maabada
  • A dance performance by Tamar Borer at the Jerusalem theater
  • “Where is Mrs. Gabay?”, an outdoor performance for the entire family by the Karon theater

Culinary Hamshushalayim. Additionally dozens of restaurants in the city will grant guests special offers and discounts. The chefs of the restaurants will prepare their favorite winter time Jerusalem soup for Hamshushalayim visitors for only 20 shekels. A special ‘Culinary Hamshushalayim’ menu will offer guests meals at restaurants for 78 and 118 shekels. Also, guests who stay at participating hotels for two nights during the ‘Hamshushalayim’ weekends will be offered an accommodation package that includes 50% discount off the first night and unique benefits.
