The city of Tiberias, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in the north of Israel hosts a marathon each year. The Tiberias Marathon is the ‘lowest marathon on earth’ at some 200 meters below sea level, and runners travel through the historic streets of Tiberias before heading south along the shores of the Sea of Galilee towards the Jordan River and Kibbutz Ein Gev where runners turn around and head back. The beautiful scenery and unique setting of the Tiberias Marathon have made it incredibly popular and every year runners from around the world travel to the Galilee to take part. In 2012, the Tiberias Marathon will take place on January 12.

The Tel Aviv Marathon will be returning on March 30, 2012 to this city, known by many as ‘the Mediterranean Capital of Cool’. With a series of running events including a full marathon, half marathon, 10km run, and 10% marathon, as well as 30km hand cycling and 21km inline skating events, the marathon day will be full of action as participants will see some of the greatest sites of this beautiful city.

The Jerusalem Night Run is an annual night-time race through the ancient and inspirational city of Jerusalem. Returning to the city in 2011, taking place on December 12, the 10km race has in recent years become a pre-race for the full length Jerusalem Marathon which takes place in March. The 2011 Night Run in Jerusalem will be focused around the walls of the ancient Old City – it is totally unique.

The Veolia Desert Challenge is a series of challenging outdoor events taking place every December in the Negev Desert near to the Dead Sea. Including mountain biking and running events at day and night for the beginner or the experienced, the Veolia Desert Challenge offers some once in a lifetime experiences in a magical desert setting. The 2011 event takes place on December 2-3.

The second Jerusalem International Marathon will take place on March 16, 2012. Unique in its setting, the Jerusalem Marathon provides a running track which is not only varied in its terrain, but also narrates the story of the city of Jerusalem, over its 3000 year history, provides amazing views, and diffuses some of the city’s unique culture. The marathon features three options: the full marathon, half marathon, and 10km run, meaning there is truly something for almost everybody. The marathon offers a unique way to see a unique city.

Tel Aviv has some amazing events every year, and the Tel Aviv Crosstown Bikeride which takes place during the Sukkot holiday, is one of them. The event is super family friendly and sees loads of the main streets in the city closed off to motorists starting and ending at Kikar Hamedina (State Square) in the north of town. The event will have a fun theme with an outdoor performance by the Israeli band “Girafot”, as well as booths, bike shows, a dj set, and a spinning marathon. The event takes place on October 14, 2011.
