The Jacob’s Ladder Festival is a twice a year folk music festival in Israel, held in Nof Ginosar on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in the north of Israel. The festival takes place in May (Spring) and December (Winter) and is a unique musical and social event for lovers of all aspects of folk music from Bluegrass to World music, Irish jigs to Country Rock, and Blues to Renaissance. The May festival is the larger of the two, with events taking place outdoors, while the December festival is more intimate, with an indoor series of events. The 2012 spring Jacob’s Ladder Festival will take place on the weekend of May 3-5

Idan Raichel is one of Israel’s most prominent musicians. As such he gives regular concerts across the country, and has one upcoming in Jerusalem. Famous for his ‘project’ in which he fused the music and sounds of cultures from across the globe – both those which comprise the diverse mosaic of Israeli society and now, beyond. He has consequently become one of the top musicians in the ‘world music’ genre in the world, performing with his troupe around the world. He will be performing a special concert in Jerusalem on January 19, 2012 to celebrate the launch of his upcoming third album.

Thursdays on Campus at Tel Aviv University is a series of free events running every Thursday between 6pm and 11pm at Tel Aviv University in the Ramat Aviv neighborhood of North Tel Aviv. The events at Tel Aviv university range from lectures by leading academics on a range of fascinating topics, to travelling exhibitions, film screenings, and live performances and concerts. The Piano Festival is an annual event taking place in Tel Aviv showcasing a range of music over its six days. With most concerts taking place at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Neve Tzedek, the festival includes some of the largest names in Israeli music showing their fans, and music appreciators from around the world slightly new and diverse takes on the songs they are known for. The 2011 Piano Festival, Tel Aviv, will take place between November 22-27 with most of the largest concerts at the Suzanne Dellal Centre.

The Jerusalem International Oud Festival is one of the most important and exciting cultural initiatives in Jerusalem, enriching the city’s cultural scene every year with new sounds of distant cultures, deepening our familiarity with sounds close to us, and protecting sounds that were on the verge of disappearing. The Oud Festival is a unique celebration of cultural diversity through music organised by Confederation House, and the 2011 festival will take place between November 10-19.

The Tamar Festival is an annual festival held near the Dead Sea in Israel during the Sukkot holiday. This five day festival is one of Israel’s largest music festivals, featuring some of Israel’s greatest musicians as well as music from around the world all in a unique and powerful setting in Israel’s Negev Desert. The 2011 Tamar Festival will run between October 15-19 and will feature the likes of Infected Mushroom, Mosh Ben Ari, Aviv Geffen, and The Churchills and The Styles.

Geva Alon is an Israeli alt-folk singer who performs largely in English. He will be performing at Hurshata, a beautiful, intimate, outdoor venue in a eucalyptus grove in the Galilee near the cities of Haifa and Yokneam, this Friday, 16 September, 2011 at 20.30. This will be the first Geva Alon concert with his new band.
