ARTLV – A Month of Art in Tel Aviv
300 artists, 150 foreign visitors, 10 exhibition halls and 1 major art event: Tel Aviv-Yafo will see its first international art biennial this weekend under the auspice of the ARTLV group. The biennial will introduce major Israeli and international artists in what is considered the flagship of the dozens of events that will take place in September – the Month of Art of the Tel Aviv-Yafo Centennial Year.
1. Boulevard Art
A celebration of plastic art in the public space: works by 400 artists will be hung along major boulevards, at intersections, and at the city’s center for performing arts – The Golda Center.

2. Simulakra
The artists Karin Bar and Elik Corfu embark upon an intellectual-philosophical journey to the actuality of the virtual world and present a reality that exists within the realms of virtual media.

3. Tel-Aviv’s 100th Anniversary
An exhibition commemorating Meir Dizengoff. The works, which make use of a hybrid technique, depict scenes from Tel Aviv’s history. The exhibition is suited to the city’s senior citizens.

4. A Yafo Portrait
A photography exhibition that presents numerous Yafo images and moments. Abu Hassan and Rifat Turk, the three Christian metalworkers, hummus, flying fish, and horses and their riders on the beach. Yafo, usually reserved only for its residents, steps outside the confines of the city. Photographer: Zur Shizaf.

5. A Simple Love Story – A Film by Honi HaMaagel
The artist Honi HaMaagel documents his parents on video and conducts intimate conversations with them. In addition to the film, the program also includes an exhibition entitled “That’s What’s Left” – containing artifacts from greater Tel Aviv’s first neighborhoods.

6. Needlework Unveiling
A special needlework depicting Tel Aviv at 100, woven by one male and thirty female embroidery artists, will be on display in the conference hall at the Tel-Aviv-Yafo Municipality. The needlework is the community’s gift to the city in honor of its anniversary.

7. Inside Out
The world inside, the world outside: 5 spaces and 5 artists under a single roof, against the backdrop of Tel Aviv’s landscape. Curator: Ketti Bar

8. Art Biennale
70 artists from Israel and abroad – Four different venues – One route

9. Artectura
A distinctive architectural installation: the familiar setting of the Yafo Port turns into a dynamic sculpture scene, through which visitors take an experiential tour that suggests new ways how to observe and position works of art in a given space.

10. Loving Art
Scores of galleries, museums and alternative spaces throughout the city offer a high dose weekend of art.
Thursday, September 10 – dozens of galleries will be open from 14:00 until the wee hours of the morning.
Friday, September 11 – artists from different parts of the city will open their studios to the public at large, from 12:00 to 17:00
Saturday, September 12 – artists from different parts of the city will open their studios to the public at large, from 10:00 to 16:00

11. Unveiling the Bird Mosaic
The Bird Mosaic from Beit Govrin, crafted in the 6th century A.D. to decorate the floor of a worship chamber, is considered one of the most spectacular of its kind ever discovered in Israel. Following an extensive restoration process, it will be on display at the Eretz Israel Museum.

12. Intermediate Space – Video Art Dealing with Tel Aviv
An exhibit that addresses the area between black and white, between Tel Aviv “The White City” and Tel Aviv of the Middle East, of Yafo and its southern neighborhoods. Curators: Tali Navon and Carmel Gottlieb Kimchi.

13. The Sea of Silence Emits Secrets
Reflecting the national poet’s involvement in promoting the arts, Bialik House will for the first time open its doors to contemporary art. The first exhibition presents works by Michal Rovner and Annette Masaga, who negotiate with the written text, the movement, the silence, and the secret.

14. “This is Also Tel Aviv” – The Photography Project
A unique photography exhibition: 40 stickers, bearing images of the city as seen through the camera lenses of local photographers, will be pasted to the ground all along Rothschild Boulevard.

15. A Tapestry of Flowers
A breathtaking tapestry made out of 800,000 flowers, whose hidden design embodies historical motifs, will be unveiled in honor of the city’s Centennial. A special tribute by the city of Brussels, the public will be able to view the quarter-acre tapestry at Rabin Square before the Rosh Hashana holiday.

16. Platoon Songs
Four artists embark upon a journey which takes them to the depths of the White City’s most chilling alleyways. This multidisciplinary event combines the screening of a video, a performance, spoken words, and a photography posters exhibition.

17. Art and Fashion – A Photography Exhibition
An encounter between fashion designers and artists from different disciplines who draw their inspiration from a variety of sources and translate it into the language of fashion. Sponsored by the magazine “Silhouette.”

18. Duck Sculpture Inauguration – “Still Optimistic”
The Centennial year’s mascot receives a permanent stage: a sculpture of the duck character created by the late Dudu Geva will be installed in Masarik Park, underscoring Geva’s vision of an optimistic, joyful and utterly frivolous city.

19. Library Inauguration at Levinsky Park
A special library for the migrant worker community, whose collection consists of books in 12 different languages, including Chinese, Thai, Hindi, Tegali, Romanian, and Spanish. The library will be open on weekends at the Levinsky Park complex. Initiative and execution: Art Team – a multidisciplinary team of artists.

20. Student Films about Tel Aviv
A festive screening of films made by students from the Minshar School and Tel Aviv University, created specifically in honor of the city’s Centennial.

21. “100 People – 100 Years” Photography Exhibition
Marking the city’s Centennial, the photographer Mia Kaplushnik documents 100 Tel Aviv residents who were born between 1909 and 2009 – one portrait for each year.

22. 100 Photographs – Revealing the City at the Tel Aviv Port
100 photographs from the “Revealing the City” collection, gathered from the homes of Tel Aviv residents, will be enlarged into one huge installation. The public will be asked to choose The Centennial Photograph and receive New Year’s cards based on the selected photograph. Held in cooperation with HP Indigo and the Tel Aviv Port.

23. Once There Was a Zoo Here
An exhibition depicting the zoo that once existed in Tel Aviv, which was located in the vicinity of the present Tel-Aviv-Yafo Municipality building.
